[Bug 18387] New: Oblivion doesn't quite make it all the way down
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18387 Summary: Oblivion doesn't quite make it all the way down Product: Wine Version: 1.1.20 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: roothorick(a)new.rr.com When you quit Oblivion, it never actually closes the window and shuts down. It just seems to kind of hang in memory, with a screen in your face. This becomes a significant issue if you were playing the game full screen and go to quit, now you have to switch out to a terminal and manually kill the game. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18387 --- Comment #1 from Ben Anderson <roothorick(a)new.rr.com> 2009-05-07 18:25:27 --- Quick correction. If you quit from the main menu before starting a game, it seems to make it all the way down. Try quitting from ingame however, and it hangs. And no, going back to the menu first and then quitting from there doesn't work; it hangs anyway. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18387 --- Comment #2 from Ben Anderson <roothorick(a)new.rr.com> 2009-05-07 18:35:16 --- I just played with some possible workarounds; nothing worked. There's no way to avoid that hang atm. All you can do is switch to a console (Ctrl-Alt-Fx) and manually kill it (risking a hardlock on the switch back for ATI users). Or you can play windowed, to significant detriment to the experience. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18387 --- Comment #3 from Ben Anderson <roothorick(a)new.rr.com> 2009-05-10 01:42:27 --- I found a workaround, of sorts, but you still risk a hardlock with Catalyst drivers. Run the game in a separate X server (something along the lines of "startx ./wine 'C:\\Program Files\Oblivion\Oblivion.exe' -- :1") and when you're done, zap (ctrl-alt-backspace) the X server, bringing you back to your original X server with your regular desktop. You can then also use Ctrl-Alt-Fx to go back to your desktop while the game is running (also risking a hardlock!) By the same logic you should be able to simply run wine directly from startx with no X server running, possibly avoiding the hardlock risk altogether, but that takes away a significant amount of Wine's convenience (I'm just about logging out completely anyway! Why not just reboot into Windows and enjoy better performance? etc.) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18387 --- Comment #4 from GHales <gordonhales(a)sympatico.ca> 2009-06-07 18:38:20 --- Created an attachment (id=21636) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=21636) Crash on exit trace The crash on exit bug is still in 1.23. Attached is the tail end (after all the D3D surface fixmes) of the console output from a recent session of mine that didn't quit properly. Wine brought up a window complaining that the program had an error, but I was able to close the window, and wine quit correctly after that. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
