[Bug 25906] New: DC Universe Online: launcher doesn't work
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25906 Summary: DC Universe Online: launcher doesn't work Product: Wine Version: 1.3.12 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: austinenglish(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=33018) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33018) terminal output I had to copy both dvd's to a folder and run setup.exe from there, otherwise the game wouldn't detect the second disk (the window is blank so perhaps I didn't change disk properly, but hard to know see bug 25905). After that workaround, installs fine. Running, however, just gives me a gray screen and a ton of mshtml/shdocvw fixme/err's. I tried 'winetricks ie7', but that didn't help. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Now I can see the flash page with an error message 'There was a problem determing the game information'. Apparently the flash/ActiveX object cannot find the game. I am using the Steam version btw. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25906 --- Comment #4 from Erik <wine(a)erikdokter.nl> 2011-01-31 16:59:43 CST --- I still get the same message in Wine. The Launcher tries to load the following page: http://launch.soe.com/lp3/index.html?game=dcuo-live&skin=dcuo When I load the page in a native Firefox, I get a login screen where I can enter username + password. When loading in Wine, I get the same eror message (with wine-gecko 1.2.0 beta1). I can also consistently crash iexplorer by navigating away from the page. That is, first load the page the Launcher tries to open, and then simply navigate to another page (e.g. www.google.com). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25906 --- Comment #6 from Erik <wine(a)erikdokter.nl> 2011-02-01 13:50:28 CST --- I tried again on a new prefix, and got the launcher working. I have installed wine-gecko-1.2.0-beta1, ie68 (with winetricks-alpha) and flash. Now the Launcher works, although it is not yet as it should be: the flash-object is moved a bit to the left, and because of that I can't access the Options menu. I can, however, login and download updates. It looks to me at the moment that the installation of IE8 sort-of solved the issue (as in: the Launcher works, but not perfect). I have also tried the hack from comment 5, but that did not seem to make any difference. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25906 --- Comment #10 from Dan Kegel <dank(a)kegel.com> 2011-07-28 12:09:39 CDT --- Created an attachment (id=35729) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35729) console output from starting launcher Here's a console log from current git. (The wineprefix is clean except for vcrun2008 and flash, neither of which are needed to get to this point). The screen shows a big grey square, and (if you move it with alt-click-drag) behind it a black area with a 'sony online entertainment' logo. Minimizing and maximizing, or clicking on, the task doesn't help. 'winetricks ie8' works around this still (though you have to then alt-click-drag the grey window away) and lets you log in and update your installation. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

There was one simple regression, so you need the very recent Git version that contains its fix. No winetricks is needed. I think this bug should be marked fixed and new one should be filled for virtual desktop requirement. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Where did that registry setting come from? Shouldn't the game be setting that somewhere, instead of hacking it in manually? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Where did that registry setting come from? Shouldn't the game be setting that somewhere, instead of hacking it in manually?
It makes MSHTML use our JScript implementation for scripts on the page. The default for http: documents is to use Gecko builtin engine for that doesn't allow scripts to call back the app nor handle IE-only features. These settings will be needed until we will revert the default settings. If that's the only thing required to run a game, there is not much to fix. We could, however, have a separate bug tracking apps that require such settings, so we can measure its impact collect data for the eventual switch of the setting in the future. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
