Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded. The explorer process failed to start. Seems suspicious. In my previous test IE8 was installed with winetricks.
Re-tested with wine 10. IE8 was installed with winetricks IE8 installs. In order to get IE8 to started these DLL's needs to be overridden: iertutil.dll urlmon.dll

Updated winetricks to version: 20250102-next Created new wine prefix and installed ie8 with winetricks. IE8 starts without any dll overrides.
After installation i added dll override for wininet.dll I started IE8 and GUI looks like in attached picture. I stopped IE8 and re-started it. After this time page is not loaded.
Console has this error message: GnuTLS error: No or insufficient priorities were set.
Could it be that TLS 1.2 is required?

Normally, GnuTLS error will not be reported. Execute './configure' in the source code to see if there is a GnuTLS error . IE8 was installed with winetricks Wine was configured to Windows 7. Ubuntu-mate 22.04 has libgnutls30 version 3.7.3-4ubuntu1.5 In 22.04 IE8 seems to function without the GnuTLS error. Tested few pages and these seem to work: www.winehq.org www.google.com.
