The underlying problem is that res_query fails for T_ANY - not sure why, but it's like that. Here's a test for DNS_TYPE_ANY. It succeeds on my Debian machine as well the Windows VMs on the testbot. It fails on the Debian testbot VM with DNS_ERROR_RCODE_NOT_IMPLEMENTED.
