There was an Uplay update around october 29 after which I always get the "Uplay service unavailable" blurb, no matter which version of Wine I tested (1.9.18 ... 1.9.22). I don't think it is a regression. Maybe some changes in Uplay... There were many reports of Uplay failures since last week(http://downdetector.com/status/uplay) so I'm a bit confused about this.
I've just tried it inside WINE and a Windows 7 VM on the same Hardware at the same time: VM: Login works. WINE: Login fails. Hack (apply on Wine Staging)
tested it on 2 different machines (macbook pro (OSX 10.11), iMac (10.12)) no working. - I downloaded wine 1.9.22 sources - I downloaded the staging patchset current git (1.9.22) - I applied staging patchet with ./patches/patchinstall.sh DESTDIR="/path/to/wine-1.9.22-src" --all - I applied than your hack with patch -p1 < cryptnet.diff - I compiled the sources modified that way with the 3-stage compiling process (wow64, winetools, wine32) as usual (I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit).
But, however, the problem persisted in my case.
May I did something wrong?

I downloaded the wine 1.9.24 sources, added the two patches from github that you indicated, built and installed i386 and amd64 binaries, and used winecfg to make UbisoftGameLauncher.exe detect Vista. Now Uplay works again - as do Steam games that require uplay like "Child of Light". For me the games are still not running:
Games which do run: - games which also can be run without launching Uplay: - Beyond Good and Evil - Silent Hunter IV
Games tested which do not run: - Anno 2070 - Rayman Legend - Flashback
so as I mentioned, something in security? Its not that Uplay itself is not working, its the launching of most games... It starts with the ubisoft logo and then crashes back to Uplay.
