[Bug 22730] New: Dungeon Keeper 2: 1 fps at menu screen
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22730 Summary: Dungeon Keeper 2: 1 fps at menu screen Product: Wine Version: 1.1.44 Platform: x86 URL: http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/games- downloads/159-dungeon-keeper-2-full-version-1-7-a.html OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: olerass(a)gmail.com It's terribly hard to navigate around the menus in Dungeon Keeper 2 because the game is running at around 1 or 2 fps. In-game the fps is much higher so this issue is only with the menus when not in-game. Running current git (1.1.44) on Arch Linux x32 with Radeon HD4890 and catalyst 10.3 driver. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Did you activate "Hardware Acceleration" in-game? I forgot to mention that it is only with this activated the problem occurs. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Yes, everything checked in Graphics Options, including Hardware Acceleration. Some measurement by "WINEDEBUG=+fps wine DKII.exe" gives me cca 85 fps. I would guess - ATI driver bug? Also in bug 22643 someone complains about poor performance in game menu, which i don't see. Any chance for you to try older wine like 1.1.20 (bug 22643 claims that this one does not suffer from the performance problem). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22730 --- Comment #6 from Ole Rasmussen <olerass(a)gmail.com> 2010-05-19 12:41:33 --- It turns out the issue is present with: Catalyst 10.3, Catalyst 10.4, xf86-video-ati 6.13 as well as xf86-video-ati-git Isn't it highly unlikely that both the free and proprietary driver has the same issue/bug? It could of course also be the case that the xf86-video-ati driver runs 1 fps because its bad 3d-acceleration, but it sounds weird to me if the driver can't even pull of drawing a menu with more than 1fps. I better let the experts make the final conclusion but to me this points to an issue in Wine. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Here's a video showing the menu experience and also the in-game experience showing that it runs much smoother than in the menu. It's easiest seen on the cursor which is quite hard to control due to the lagging. Video: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2llmw08&s=6 Can someone with ATI/AMD graphics card confirm the bug? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22730 --- Comment #10 from Wylda <wylda(a)volny.cz> 2010-05-30 16:19:27 --- Hmmm... You are using the same monitor like me :-) 26" + TV ?? Back to the issue. I think this could be mark as invalid. I took this game to WinXP and saw really slow menu like you. Maybe slight difference, initially it's fast, but when i clik on some menu item, screen "rotates" and begins to _realy_ slow and this remain till clicking on quit. Than final question Quit Yes/No is fast again. I would say game bug or not designed for WinXP (it is for Win98). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Nope:) I've got a 24" Samsung SyncMaster T240.

I don't have this issue on any Windows version. The game runs normal (fast) on both XP and WIndows 7. The problem I have on Windows is that the screen is completely black most of the time - it draws the menu but not the background. In-game it draws the UI sometimes but never the overview itself. I'm almost certain this is a bug in ATIs Windows drivers and I already wrote them about it but got no reply yet. On my old machine I had an Nvidia 8800GT card and the game raw flawlessly, I played all the way through without any issues except a few crashes here and there.
I would say game bug or not designed for WinXP (it is for Win98).
Patch 1.7 was meant to make the game compatible with Windows XP. Even so Wine should be able to run Win98 apps just as good as it does Windows XP and newer. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

After I changed my video card to NVIDIA GT 430 the problem is gone. I think it is an ATI driver problem as many video glitches are gone after video card change(textureless models in Painkiller, low fps in certain locations in King`s Bounty The Legend, crashes on global map in WH40K Dark Crusade, low fps during planet terraforming in Spore etc). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

This probably means, that this is not a wine bug, thus should be marked as INVALID, right? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
