This is not a bug, as it is a programmed feature of the game. Within windows, the game minimizes itself, and resumes upon restoration. However, this is not the case on Linux. This way Diablo II never really looses it's focus and therefore won't crash. The "Virtual Desktop"-Thing solved it. guys, that is gnome bug. kde works fine.
In current git, I do not experience the window behaviours reported originally. I use Gentoo Linux X64 with KDE. This user has suggested that this is a GNOME bug. (With a virtual desktop) I had D2+LOD+1.13d patch running, paused it, came back to it a while later and ran winecfg. After deciding not to change anything in winecfg, I exited it, but D2 would not maximize/pop back up to the virtual desktop. It was hung.
