[Bug 24358] New: FFXIV beta: fails to launch, fails version check
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24358 Summary: FFXIV beta: fails to launch, fails version check Product: Wine Version: 1.3.2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: austinenglish(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=30702) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=30702) terminal output Strange bug. The beta installs fine, but when you go to launch it, it pops up a window saying 'Checking version...'. After a couple seconds, a dialog appears over the first, saying: 11023 Unable to access server for version check. 2:20455,10007 or alternatively: 11014 Version check failed. 2:20447,0 (the second one seems more common, actually). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24358 --- Comment #9 from Dan Kegel <dank(a)kegel.com> 2010-09-12 11:50:33 CDT --- winetricks winhttp helps, but I also have to do WINEDEBUG=+relay, else it gets stuck at "initializing network". (It gets stuck also if I then redirect to /dev/null; piping to grep ws2_32 seems to make it happy.) I have yet to successfully download, though; I've seen at most 2 "local connections" and 0 "remote connections". I seem to be suffering from the slow download problems described at http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?game=268&mid=1282367905291145437&howmany=50 even on Windows, even with windows firewall turned off. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I did finally get remote connections to go above zero, and "download speed" is now at a megabit/sec. Also, WINEDEBUG=+winsock seems to be enough to get past the "Initializing network" hang, don't need WINEDEBUG=+relay. By setting up port forwarding in my nat/router/firewall box per http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/finalfantasy14/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-562...
Holy crap does that make a difference. To save time, the ports needed are: TCP/UDP 55296-55551 UDP 443 that site also mentions using a 'real torrent client', but a quick: $ find .wine | grep -i torrent showed no results. I didn't investigate further, they probably obfuscated the name or hid it some other way. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I had the hardest time getting it to patch, but I made a breakthrough tonight. I'm using Fedora 13 x86_64, and wine 1.3.1 . I tried running winetricks ie6, but it kept telling me it couldn't install on 64 bit os. I ended up uninstalling wine.x86_64 and installing wine.i686. Even then I still had to force it create a WINEPREFIX as win32: WINEPREFIX=~/.wine.ff WINEARCH=win32 winecfg I'd guess this could be a Fedora issue, as this isn't the first time it's defaulted to creating win64 prefixes. But after that I ran: winetricks winhttp ie6 Then ran installer as normal without issue. After all that when I ran WINEDEBUG=+winsock wine ffxivboot.exe, I managed to patch, login and select a character I'd created on my friend's windows computer. Using WINEDEBUG=+relay in either case gives me 11023 Unable to access server for version check. I also get random freezes of the client but other times it works ok. I then copied game data from my windows install. Documents > My Games > FINA... And that gets me past the 11018 error. I thought it might have to do with writing permissions for my home folder but they looked ok. It seems that it will work with just winhttp but I get a lot of random freezes and it takes a lot of tries(I have to kill it a lot) to finally get through the update process. Did you ever locate them? the .torrent files for patching are found in $HOME/.wine/drive_c/users/your_user/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV/downloads/ffxiv/ For me, $HOME/.wine/drive_c/your_user links to ~/ for me. 2d2a390f/metainfo has the .torrent for the latest boot client. 48eca647/metainfo has the 15 or so (currently) torrents for updating the client. I may not be able to help with the winhttp trace, but that might help.
