[Bug 49885] New: Missing platform in games category
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49885 Bug ID: 49885 Summary: Missing platform in games category Product: WineHQ Apps Database Version: unspecified Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: appdb-unknown Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: matteobin(a)protonmail.com Distribution: --- When submitting a new app, there is no platform category under the games one. I think it should be added. I submitted an app that is a platform game: Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair [1]. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49885 --- Comment #1 from matteobin(a)protonmail.com --- Looking at the AppDB website code I noticed that platforms are mentioned in the description for Action Games [1]. Whilst it's good that their existence is acknowledged, platform games are different and numerous enough to deserve their own subcategory. Besides, when submitting a new app, the category description is not visible. It is very likely that this omission will cause puzzlment to unexperienced users like me. If it's okay for everyone I'll personaly edit and commit the SQL file responsible for the categories creation [1]. FYI, I think 'platformer' is more common among English speakers.
Dear Austin, you are probably right. However, if we want to go down with 'platformer', I wouldn't call the subcategory Platformer Games, but simply Platformers. Instead, if we settle on 'platforms', I would call the subcategory Platform Games [1]. Hello, 'Games' has '1st person shooter' sub-category so 'platformer' should be fine as a name. If you look at the search form on the AppDB website, you'll see that there are more categories than in the linked file. You can see that 'strategy games' is subdivided into 'real-time strategy', 'real-time tactics' and 'turn-based', for example, while 'action games' has no sub-category. I believe that 'platformer' should be a sub-category of 'action games', along with 'arcade games', 'fighting games', 'brawlers', 'horizontal/vertical/tube scrolling shooters' (1st and 3rd shooters having their own separate categories). I think that the categories have been manually updated in the SQL database on the server. Editing the linked file might not be the best approach. Platformer is fine for me. I can't edit the DB, so I'll have to wait for someone with more power than me. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
