It's a pity because there are some hilarious cutscenes in the game, featuring Lance Boyle as the host of the game. The company logos which should be played right after starting have the following properties: Video: WMV v7, 640x480 px, 4:3 Audio: WMA v7, 128 kbps, 44 kHz, Stereo, 16 bits The cutscenes in the game are separated into 2 files: a wmv file which also includes an audio track (WMV v7 / WMA v7) and a corresponding wav file (ADPCM, Stereo, 22 kHz) After installing WMP9 or 10 via winetricks the videos are still not playing. The demo can be used to test the issue but it contains only one of the company logos. Maybe quartz should use DirectShow registry entries to check that the codec is available and trigger a different path... I think I never saw I wmv video working in wine. The game seems to accept any RGB format in its renderer, but blithely blits the data into a D3DFMT_R5G6B5 d3d8 surface regardless of the actual connection type. Presumably native outputs RGB16 before (or in lieu of) any other RGB formats. The attached patch fixes the video problems for me (although the video is still green and purple, which is a separate bug that affects other applications as well). It's a little unfortunate, because I'm not sure that we really want to prefer RGB16 to BGRx—not only because it could mean a double conversion for videoflip, but also because it potentially loses some color depth. It's not a particularly large concern as it's a non-default code path in several ways, but it also may be difficult to notice regressions.
