On the mid-left side of the screen you can see the space background very
pixellated

In Sword of the Stars the main game screen background has a very pixellated
look (see attached screenshot).

There has been no activity on this bug for over 2 years.
Is this still an issue with Wine-1.3.35 (or newer)?

I couldn't reproduce the described problem (1.1.21 and 1.3.35) with the demo,
but I must add that the background is black(empty) without native d3dx9_27.dll.
Nvidia gfx card + proprietary driver 290.10 here.
