That was a point of 'hostanme -i'. It shows that his hosts file is not correct. His FQDN points to 127.0.1.1 not the real IP address.
I told the reporter to look through the FAQ after that and he said in comment #8:
the FAQ I received did not solve the issue. i attached a terminal log for pirates of the Caribbean online.
Which is why I assume the hostname doesn't point to loopback anymore.
Author you have to fix this (edit /etc/hosts) and replace "127.0.1.1" with your real IP address from eth0 (or whatever interface facing the Internet).
The program is setting both the bind and the connect sockaddr IP to 127.0.0.1 and the reporter said hostname -i gave 127.0.1.1. This doesn't seem to be the usual error. I presume there's an error in the /etc/hosts file, which is why I want to see that. (In reply to comment #24)
1. when i put in /etc/hosts file it says "Permission denied"
You should have read permissions on this files or your system setup is broken. To edit the file, you'll need root permissions. What's a class A IP address? I know class A subnets, but that's just a question of the netmask. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11444 --- Comment #26 from Joe Hufnagel <jrhlao(a)verizon.net> 2008-02-09 18:21:52 --- Created an attachment (id=10696) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=10696) Wine console output Wine version: 0.9.54 Debian, unstable Wanted to add my observations. I also had login/layout problems when trying to run Pirates. I then copied my pirates directory under my default ~/.wine/drive_c to my ie4linux wine drive, ~/.ies4linux/ie6/drive_c. Then I executed the pirates launcher as follows: env WINEPREFIX=~/.ies4linux/ie6 wine "c:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\PiratesOnline\Launcher1.exe" The layout of the login was all correct, and I could login. Also pirates properly went through its update sequence. Looks like it then crashed when attempting to go from the login panel to the actual game. On a windows box, this is where it goes to a full screen app. From within the app, there is an option to change the video setting to run it in a "window", but I have to poke around some to find out how I can set that setting from outside the app. Might try to copy a windows directory where that setting has be changed, or poke through the registry to see if anything looks promising. I've include the output from the previously mentioned execution. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I did a packet capture on both a Windows computer and a Linux computer. When you log in, it sends your login over HTTPS to 198.105.196.11 (apps.pirates.go.com). Now here's the problem: Under windows, the SSL session is set up fine, and everything goes smooth. Under Wine however, a Plain-text HTTP request is sent, which is met with a hang-up (thus the "socket_set_error: Success"). Therefore, the problem is that SSL isn't working in PotC under Wine. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

All requests succeed according to that log, so I'm not convinced that this is a wininet bug. The second line in your log is worrying though:
err:module:attach_process_dlls "rpcrt4.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
Are you using a clean prefix?
I just deleted my prefix and PotC is still unable to authenticate me. However, Wine does not complain about rpcrt4.dll failing to initialize. I had a look at a packet capture - the launcher _still_ sends a PLAINTEXT HTTP request on the SSL HTTPS port - in other words, it tries to use port 443 as a HTTP port rather than a HTTPS port. The lack of a SSL handshake causes the server on the other end to terminate the connection. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Correction. The SSL bug is resolved. However, login still appears to be impossible due to pirates.exe crashing in nss3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
