[Bug 15118] New: PokerTracker HUD dysfunctional (UpdateLayeredWindow needs implementing?)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15118 Summary: PokerTracker HUD dysfunctional (UpdateLayeredWindow needs implementing?) Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: user32 AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: wtipton(a)hmc.edu Created an attachment (id=15822) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=15822) normal output PokerTracker (www.pokertracker.com -- trial version available) creates a bunch of small windows which overlay poker clients' windows and give various statistics about opponents' play. The most recent versions of PokerTracker include updates to this functionality which, unfortunately, break the application under wine. Instead of the small, information-bearing dialog appears a very large blank gray one with which the user can not interact. The most relevant-seeming line in the normal output is: fixme:win:UpdateLayeredWindow (0x10a40,0x354,0x33f300,0x33f2d4,0x380,0x33f2bc,0x007b7b7b,0x33f334,2): stub! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I tested PokerTracker 3 (beta 28) in the trial version and PokerStars as the poker client. Once the HUD is started, the poker client is still overlayed with a grey box, making much of PokerTracker 3 unusable. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15118 --- Comment #14 from Will Tipton <wtipton(a)hmc.edu> 2009-07-06 16:18:33 --- It seems there was some progress working on this problem as of 1.1.24: it seems to be closer to behaving correctly. So, I think a status update is in order. I'll attach and describe an image of the app as it runs currently and hypothesize about what might be unusual about the app that wine gets wrong. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of wine/windows internals will be able to flesh out the specifics. So, the HUD is a single window called PokerTracker3TableCover which pops up and overlays the poker site's software. Although PT3 itself provides transparency options, the transparency shown in the screenshot was achieved with Compiz. Now, the idea of the HUD is that the regions of the window which are red in the screenshot display information about the players at the table. The rest of the window, which is black in the screenshot, should not be visible at all. And, of course, when the user clicks on the black portion of the window, the mouse press should be passed on to the poker software behind it. In other words, the black portion of the window should not be there. So that is the problem with PT3's current behavior in wine: the non-information-containing of the HUD window should be transparent and should not recieve mouse clicks. Now, I imagine that this is implemented in PT3 through some Layered Windows attributes which are not supported by wine. According to http://www.codeproject.com/KB/wtl/transparent.aspx , WS_EX_LAYERED makes the window see-through and WS_EX_TRANSPARENT makes it click-through. So, if we could verify that these are not working in wine and then take steps to implement them, maybe we could close this bug. :) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15118 --- Comment #26 from aphidia(a)hotmail.com 2010-10-07 14:50:17 CDT --- I mentioned this ticket politely as a suggestion on the WINE mailing list since the new release was asking for non-working programs to be tested, and the devs reacted very silly telling me that they only fix bugs that interest them as it's a volunteer project. Great attitude guys. Unfortunately I'm not a WINE dev myself, but I'm sure that the fix is most likely a simple easy one for a WINE dev. I made a replacement HUD for Linux http://sourceforge.net/projects/pt3hud4lin/ but it's not very good. If someone knows how to make X overlays then please email me genjix (mangled to stop SP4M) riseup net. I know how to get stats from the SQL database. Still better would be to actually get PT3 working under WINE since it's impossible to have current table stats for yourself as PT3 stores the value internally, not in the database. Three solutions: - Petition PT3 to make a Linux release (they publicly said they will not) - Write native Linux HUD to go with the PT3 database. (doesn't have current session stats for yourself) - WINE devs write a simple fix as detailed earlier in this bug report (reply: fix it yourself) Come on WINE, this is a much used software and would be a boon for Linux. Seems like bug 15848 is back (or rather, it was never actually fixed), and the window-minimizing workaround described in that bug report is no longer working for me. This was tested after the commit you link to, and the HUD was still not working, as described above. Basically, proper functioning is that the HUD window (most of which is transparent) fully covers the poker table window. In wine, the drawn parts of the window showed up correctly, but the transparent parts were solid black instead. Additionally, it is necessary to be able to click and interact with the underlying poker table window 'through' the (mostly-transparent) HUD window. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

From the looks of it, I believe this issue could be the same as the one that is effecting Diablo III and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria launchers and the Diablo III splash screen that shows before the game launches. It appears to be something with the background transparency of WS_EX_LAYERED windows

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15118 --- Comment #55 from voidcastr <voidcastr(a)gmail.com> 2012-10-02 16:43:39 CDT --- Confirmed to fix the visuals of the Guild Wars 2 launcher, while not breaking anything major. Yay. Nevertheless, one thing remains strange about it: When dragging the launcher window around at a medium or faster mouse movement speed, it gets stuck in place (like simply dropping from the cursor's grip). Thereby my cursor still keeps showing the icon of a "grabbing" hand until I release the left mouse button. Furthermore, the window does never get stuck when moving the mouse really slow while dragging. And even more strange: When I move the window to the left, I never lose it no matter the mouse movement speed (this seems to apply only to a quite narrow angle but it's reproducible). This seems REALLY weird to me, tbh. Can anybody confirm? It's supposed to be fixed when the launcher/game is started with "-dx9single".
