https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47964 --- Comment #2 from David <dav75uk(a)yahoo.co.uk> --- No need, I reverted back to 4.17 it worked fine again. I'd put good money on a change in 4.18 broke it. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47964 --- Comment #3 from Fabian Maurer <dark.shadow4(a)web.de> --- But you don't know which commit, do you? https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47964 --- Comment #4 from David <dav75uk(a)yahoo.co.uk> --- Indeed, I could try to compile the code and bisect through git until I get it working. With build times (assuming it builds straight away) that's probably half a day of effort which unfortunately I don't have. Do any of the commits strike you as a possible or likely candidate to cause this behaviour and perhaps I might try at that version. With respect to you all being volunteers, if someone was willing to work on fixing some of the other bugs (or implementing missing code) I've reported for this app which I use a lot (see appdb), particularly implementing correct activation which is a thorn I'd be willing to commit a bit of time. I suspect also it's not the only app that has started to fail so more reports might help this. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I understand. Is there a free download, so others could test?
Do any of the commits strike you as a possible or likely candidate to cause this behaviour and perhaps I might try at that version.
That's too much for me to estimate, it's not always obvious.
particularly implementing correct activation which is a thorn I'd be willing to commit a bit of time.
Well, for that you need to own the program, right? Most of us don't have it, I guess. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47964 --- Comment #6 from David <dav75uk(a)yahoo.co.uk> --- Of course that's always a problem. However, I'd be prepared to liaise with someone in this case to try out patches (on the original activation bug the owner of chessbase 12 said exactly that). Also with some commitment from wine, it might well be possible to persuade the publisher to allow wine to have a copy for the purpose of improving compatibility. Particularly as it's old software, and also the key is needed to use it for more than a couple of minutes (except that wine's implementation of the lockout doesn't quite work right and nor is code itself particularly well implemented here either which is why I can still use my purchased copy with wine without being able to activate it). With their permission I'd happy share my key knowing that it would be unregistered at the end of the testing so as not to cause me problems. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47964 --- Comment #7 from David <dav75uk(a)yahoo.co.uk> --- Actually with the publisher's consent and a commitment to fix the issues I've raised in a reasonable time frame, I could send my original copy (I trust you guys) on the basis it's returned when all the testing is done. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47964 --- Comment #8 from David <dav75uk(a)yahoo.co.uk> --- Another option as it's a linux box, I maybe could provide a logon for a tester to come have a look. The problem obviously is I'd need to make sure everything else on my machine is secure. I do however have an older linux machine which perhaps I could clear off anything personal on, and install it on that. That way the publisher doesn't get involved and I doubt it breaks any terms on my home broadband unless someone starts a public server. How would that sound? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47964 --- Comment #9 from Austin English <austinenglish(a)gmail.com> --- All those options are way more involved and take a lot more time than running a bisect.. Most developers would rather debug on their own setup instead of having to get familiar with a new one. Besides, without identifying what commit broke it, we don't know who is best suited to look at it. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. For simple regression testing, that's fair enough. If you don't want to regression test yourself, this could be a quick way to get it done. Quicker than guessing, anyways. But for activation it might be too bothersome. Although I personally don't have super complex setup. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Are you sure that bug comes from those fixme`s? Maybe it`s an idea to attach a WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh log first to bug https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41350 so developers could have a look at it (compress it with bzip2) and see where the "not implemented yet" message is triggered. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. It's a missing feature, any check on the registration calls these including trying to enter registration details. Of course if these were implemented it might fail elsewhere (and it's a pain to use because the captcha is not displayed properly - another pending bug). I'll grab a log when I get a chance and file it under https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41350 where that bug is raised. It's not been looked at for almost 3 years now, hence frustration, so if anyone is up for looking at it, I'd be grateful.
