Does it help if you install native d3dx9_42.dll and d3dcompiler_42.dll ?
Tested on a clean 32-bit prefix, the game is perfectly playable when installing both libraries (either d3dx9_42.dll or d3dcompiler_42.dll on its own is not enough) -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
