Sometimes it will even complete without incident (and then the game works perfectly). Quite possibly related to bug 23246 and bug 34163. Tested with wine 1.7.10. The game bundles the Windows version of Mono and this is probably one of the nasty threading bugs that existed in some versions of Mono (ought to be fixed with newer Mono versions). These also happened on Windows. If you say that this bug is not present with newer client versions it is likely they updated the Mono runtime too.
