It then crashes with a backtrace I attach below. That commit fixed bug 9479. If you revert it I believe you'll reopen that bug and plus that patch per my testing was correct so the problem either is in actuality somewhere else (but exposed by that patch) or in a specific subcase for that patch which is not being handled. So I don't recommend simply reverting it.
