$ make uninstall
Makefile is older than , please rerun ./configure
make: *** [Makefile] Error 1

The clock is set correctly, I've synced it with ntpdate and tried again from the 
start, from unpacking the tarball.

The bug is about version 20050930, which I have downloaded in a source tarball 
from a sourceforge mirror. However, updating to the CVS HEAD didn't help, the 
symptoms remained.
