I found a "simple" demo that shows a video
with help of ddraw and amstream

however it fails at 
PlayVideo.cpp:134:
m_pPrimaryVideoStream->QueryInterface(IID_IDirectDrawMediaStream,(void 
**)&m_pDDStream)

err:amstream:IMediaStreamImpl_QueryInterface (0x1b4570)->({f4104fce-9a70-11d
0-8fde-00c04fd9189d},0x4102c8),not found

it should be found and works on windows
