What if you try to run it in the full-screen mode? How about separate X with
16-bit color depth?
Also you can always try Wine's "virtual-desktop" and tell app to run full-screen
(this the recommended way to run programs in a window):

wine explorer /desktop=desktop,1024x768 program.exe
