[Bug 3008] Alien vs Predator: Game doesn't save selected resolution in game , and only allows use of DDraw

There may be some problem. It's not like it doesn't remember resolutions all the time. But one time I catched this situation (0x0x0 in video settings and it was crashing when trying to start a game). In addition, it appeared like sometimes some resolutions disappear from the choice list and there are some very weird, non-standart ones. It could be that sometimes, something goes wrong with its detection of available video modes, some modes are not detected and then, if the currently "remembered mode" is missing from the list of detected, it sets 0x0x0, or something like that. Needs more research to be sure. DirectDraw HAL - sounds quite legit, it's DirectX6, D3D was kind of part of DirectDraw back then.
