[Bug 23832] New: Mass Effect 2 stutter on initial rotation after awakening
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23832 Summary: Mass Effect 2 stutter on initial rotation after awakening Product: Wine Version: 1.2 Platform: x86 URL: http://masseffect.bioware.com/cdn/A/ME2_DEMO/MassEffec t2DemoEN.exe OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3dx9 AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com CC: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Using the saved game from bug 23684, restart the mission; when you start waking up, press escape twice to skip the movies. Now sweep the mouse to rotate yourself to look around. On Windows, this is very smooth. On Wine, there is a noticeable amount of stuttering. The problem stops as soon as you've looked at enough of the room to have it in cache, or something like that. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23832 --- Comment #1 from Dan Kegel <dank(a)kegel.com> 2010-10-10 13:41:31 CDT --- I hear this may be partly an nvidia driver bug, "743153: glLinkProgram takes longer than expected (>100ms) with some shaders" -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

It is not just about rotation, wine does not load anything except what you see when it loads the game. First use of abilities/new rooms/animations/firing weapons causes game to hang for second before it loads needed recourses, after that game runs smoothly. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23832 --- Comment #4 from Ivan <vaniaz(a)msn.com> 2011-04-17 09:06:48 CDT --- Unreal 3 has the same problem - it does not preload game resources. When you fire weapon it stutters for a second, successive shots go fine. Although level geometry and textures are preloaded, so you don't get freezes just running around. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Excessive lag after loading into a level and it gets much smoother after looking in every direction for 5-10 seconds. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I doubt that this is a d3dx9 bug or does native d3dx9_36 help? Does this also happen with other graphics cards (just to rule out that this is a driver bug)? What graphic cards (and driver versions) do you have? If it happens on different gpus / drivers, it may probably a d3d bug. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23832 --- Comment #7 from Dan Kegel <dank(a)kegel.com> 2012-08-10 03:31:18 CDT --- I have only tested this with nvidia cards and their proprietary drivers, but it happened with all versions I tested (some cards worse than others). It would be interesting to hear what the situation is with Intel and AMD cards/drivers. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
