It was easier for me to reproduce the desktop file creation
problem using Blocklist Manager,
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4566
To wit:
  winetricks vbrun60
  wine BLMInstall277.exe  (and uncheck the optional scary items)
This produces four instances of
fixme:menubuilder:SaveIconResAsXPM Unsupported color depth 24-bit

There seems to be a proposed fix in
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-January/023675.html

Doesn't apply cleanly anymore.  Could somebody have a look
and see if this would solve the remaining problem?
