I am trying to run Total 3D (sorry, not a game), and am getting a similar error with wine 1.0.1:
fixme:d3d:WineD3D_ChoosePixelFormat Add OpenGL context recreation support to SetDepthStencilSurface fixme:d3d7:IDirect3DImpl_7_CreateDevice (0x428f308): Only one Direct3D device per DirectDraw object supported
That's a different bug. The original reported bug is still present, you have to set software rendering mode for it to reach the hang in winmm.
