Mafia 1 (v1.2) works perfectly here. I have a DVD version released as "Golden Classic" which is legally sold already cracked, because Protection ID says: Safedisc 2.80.011 detected but verification not successfull assuming exe includes a faked Safedisc version or it has been cracked! Cracked by DRUNK! The CD version comes probably with SafeDics v2.70.030 (may depend Country to country). This is odd, though, because this game used to run fine on my previous (quite old) machine.
Which version of wine was that? Are you really sure, that you did not used nocd before? Yes, it used to work once upon a time and the reason it doesn't work in late Wine versions is known.
