[Bug 17401] New: duplicate Distributions in AppDB
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17401 Summary: duplicate Distributions in AppDB Product: WineHQ Apps Database Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: appdb-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: nerv(a)dawncrow.de There are much duplicate Distributions in the AppDB like "Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit Desktop Edition" or "Xubuntu 8.10 Desktop i386" instead of "Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid" (+ variants like Kubuntu)" Daniel Devine said on IRC: "Yeah, I think there needs to be an interface that makes it hard for people to go spawning varios names for the same distro/release." And i agree -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

There is currently no way for an admin to add/edit/delete distributions. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17401 --- Comment #2 from Ken Sharp <kennybobs(a)o2.co.uk> 2009-05-25 10:52:26 --- There is a way, I have cleaned up all the Ubuntu entries so they now follow a similar form. 1. Select "View distributions" http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=distribution&sTitle=View%20... 2. Select a distribution (don't click on Edit), and select "Move child objects". 3. Select the distribution it should be merged with. All test results are modified and the offending entry is deleted. Works nice. Admins/maintainers can change the chosen distribution of a test result while it is in the queue, before accepting it. I'd say this was fixed, but I'll leave that decision up to someone else. ;-) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

There is a way, I have cleaned up all the Ubuntu entries so they now follow a similar form.
Works nice.
You're right. Not very intuitive, but it's there. Thanks for pointing that out. (I really should have a second cup of coffee before posting.)
Admins/maintainers can change the chosen distribution of a test result while it is in the queue, before accepting it.
True, but obviously some admins/maintainers have been letting these duplicates through, or they wouldn't have made it to the list in the first place.
I'd say this was fixed, but I'll leave that decision up to someone else. ;-)
We should probably take a look at all the distros on the list; I know openSUSE, at least, has a similar problem, and others might as well. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I've cleaned up openSUSE, but as Rosanne has said, there will be a lot more, so it's an ongoing task... At the moment, we have one entry for each processor. Maybe there could be a way to have a single distribution and the user could pick his/her own processor? It's just a thought, it might not be worth it, I don't know how many processors Windows has been ported to over time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Windows_versions#NT_Kernel-based I count 7 on Wikipedia. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17401 --- Comment #5 from Ken Sharp <kennybobs(a)o2.co.uk> 2009-05-25 14:57:14 --- Merged about 60 duplicates. I don't know enough about each distribution to know whether minor versions should be merged too, in most cases I would assume so, so the list can probably be reduced further. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Now all we need to do is keep on top of it.
