[Bug 59173] New: Missing Mono Runtime after installing wine + winetricks (plus 32bit libs prompted when installing)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59173 Bug ID: 59173 Summary: Missing Mono Runtime after installing wine + winetricks (plus 32bit libs prompted when installing) Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: jmb_tux@gmx.net Distribution: --- This may be no bug - but I am confused about the error message and I am using Wine only since 03/2025 but used to be a Unix expert. "0024:err:mscoree:CLRRuntimeInfo_GetRuntimeHost Wine Mono is not installed" and I thought Mono is no part of Wine and developed by WineHQ. I will soon try to install mono-complete 6.12.0.199+dfsg-6 on my Kubuntu 24.04.3 with Wine 9.0. But I found via Internet research that dotnet8 should be install if after installing mono-complete this error message is stil present one my install dotnet8. Unfortunately I have not found any info on WineHQ about this probem. Any hint / information about the problem would be very welcome. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59173 --- Comment #1 from JMB9 <jmb_tux@gmx.net> --- If helpful the tested games with this error message are 32 bit games using XNA framework / MonoGame and the framework was installed by the installer .exe Title Developer & Publisher Release ----------------------------- ---------------------------- ---------- Apotheon Alientrap Games 03.02.2015 Escape Goat 2 MagicalTimeBean 24.03.2014 Ironclad Tactics Deluxe Ed. Zachtronics 18.09.2013 Some typos in the 1st description -sorry: of cause I thought that Mono is installed when installing Wine, but maybe a package problem to not get this automatically. Maybe I will look at CodeWeaver to get a better experience than with Ubuntu packages as advertised by WineHQ. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59173 --- Comment #2 from JMB9 <jmb_tux@gmx.net> --- Unfortunately, this Bug seems valid. After installing mono-complete successfully from Ubuntu repositories and after a reboot testing all 3 games the same error message appear for starting each game: Wine Mono not installed. So any hint would be welcome. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59173 --- Comment #3 from Austin English <austinenglish@gmail.com> --- Are you using the Ubuntu wine packages or the WineHQ packages (https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/wikis/Debian-Ubuntu). The Ubuntu packaged wine is actually from Debian, which disables the mono/gecko addons (because they haven't been recompiled from source by Debian). See https://askubuntu.com/questions/841847/mono-package-for-wine-is-not-installe... You have a few options: * manually install the wine-mono .msi as the above link explains * switch to the WineHQ packages, which should prompt to install mono for you * build wine from source, which should also prompt to install mono for you * use winetricks to install the native .NET version your program needs Note: mono-complete is a separate thing (confusing, I know). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59173 --- Comment #4 from JMB9 <jmb_tux@gmx.net> --- Thanks a lot - I am not familiar with Wine and use it for games since 03/2025 - and several years before I tested to use a tax program - working but not updating - and Garmin update SW which did not work ... so for me useless at that time. To answer your question: I just installed Wine form Ubuntu 25.10 STS repositories ... and was not aware that important parts are missing. Unfortunately when searching via Google I did not find what I was locking for. So thanks a lot for your help! For this bug report I will try to fisst install .msi (as I have installed mono-complete) on my Xubuntu 25.10 STS. When done I will give feedback. But it is clear that I have to use WineHQ Repository so my bug reports do have (more) meaning for WineHQ. And as 25.10 is supported, I may try it with a clone of my current version or install freshly with focus on Wine. So in future - I am not sure if using Ubuntu or Debian Testing ... as Ubuntu is extremely buggy for me right now (both 24.04 LTS as 25.10 - so I don't have high hopes for the coming 26.04 LTS - but I definitely try it). And forcing Wayland won't be helping at all. But as latest Ubuntu and Debian testing is supported by WineHQ repositories, I hope to make use of it around (mid) 2026. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59173 --- Comment #6 from JMB9 <jmb_tux@gmx.net> --- I used the website: https://askubuntu.com/questions/841847/mono-package-for-wine-is-not-installe... which seem not up to date: e.g. wine64 does no longer exist I installed 'mono-complete 6.12.0.199+dfsg-6' from the Xubuntu 25.10 STS Reps. Then I called: "wine uninstaller" and selected the "wine-mono-10.0.0-x86.msi" file with path, but I have not seen any succes/erre notion but just nothing. When I start one of the three given programs, each just crashed. I have added the Crash Log for 'Escape Goat 2' - but I see no hint want is missing now. "wine --version" gives wine-10.0 (Ubuntu 10.0~repack-6ubuntu1) as Wine was just installed by Xubuntu 25.10 STS official Reps. So the website seems to not have a real solution to the problem. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
