The game defaults to have smoke enabled.
With this setting it is very slow and unplayable.
When disabling smoke in the in game menu it
is immediately faster and playable.

This was tested with 1.1.8 on Debian Lenny with an
Athlon 64 X2 5000+, G70 GeForce 7600 GT (driver 177.80)

It is still an issue with 1.1.21 and 1.1.22 on Debian Lenny with an
Athlon 64 X2 5000+, G70 GeForce 7600 GT (driver 180.44)

I tested this and smoke seems to be faster on latest Wine, it is very playable.

I had all the details turned on to the max, and also smoke, when I disable
smoke it's a bit faster, but with smoke it's still fast and playable.

The hardware specs is:

GeForce 8600M GT
4 GB RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz (Dual Core)

This is on a Dell XPS M1530 laptop.

Software:

Wine 1.1.33
Linux 2.6.31
NVIDIA Driver Version: 190.42
Arch Linux (2009-11-28)

I've compiled Wine from source.

I've compared the performance of this game on Linux/Wine and Windows, on the
same hardware.

In Wine it works well and the performance is OK, but sometimes it's much more
slower than on Windows.

In Wine I get like 20-30 FPS and on Windows I get like 60-80 FPS.
