Okay, I'll put it another way.

I use Ubuntu gnu/linux with the gnome desktop. When I add the wine repository
and install the latest version I get no visible sign of anything happening.

You probably have a better idea of what I'm looking for then I do but for a
start a basic user whose willing to try wine without those scripts needs a menu
entry. 

At the moment I can't for the life of me work out how to navigate to the
directory where 'x' is installed so I can run it. I don't believe I should learn
how to traverse directory names with spaces in them from the cli just so I can
run something in wine.
