[Bug 24080] New: [HL2+Portal] wine client error:34: write: Bad file descriptor
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24080 Summary: [HL2+Portal] wine client error:34: write: Bad file descriptor Product: Wine Version: 1.2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: michael.monreal+wine(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=30291) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=30291) Full log Half-Life 2 (and Portal) starts up find but just exits when I try to start a game. The menu background "map" is rendered correctly though. On the console, the only hint is wine client error:34: write: Bad file descriptor You will find the full log attached. I tried to produce a debug log but that was quickly at 1gb before the steam window was even up and running... I tried "WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid" as mentioned in the FAQs. Please tell me what else I can try to get a usable log. Some notes: - wine 1.2.0 from Fedora 13 - SELinux is disabled on this system - same results with both pulseaudio on and completely off (using alsa) - GeForce 7950 with 195.36.31 drivers - other steam games (Torchlight) work great - reinstalled everything on a clean WINEPREFIX which now only has steam -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24080 --- Comment #1 from Michael Monreal <michael.monreal+wine(a)gmail.com> 2010-08-22 06:39:27 --- Btw I tried to run with -dxlevel 90, -dxlevel 81 and -dxlevel 70, all produce the same error. Also I tried setting all graphics options to the lowest setting and started with -nosound, still the same. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24080 --- Comment #2 from Michael Monreal <michael.monreal+wine(a)gmail.com> 2010-08-22 07:15:07 --- Created an attachment (id=30293) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=30293) GameOverlayRenderer.log On IRC it was suggested that I produce a WINEDEBUG=file log so here it is. I should add that HL2 does *not* exit right away but first hangs at a level loading progress of 100% for about a minute. During this time, wine wrote a *lot* of lines like "trace:file:WriteFile 0x320 (nil) 0 0x20e3e8a0 (nil)" (following the initial "bad file descriptor" thing. The last thing HL2 touched before the problem, according to the log, seems to be the attached file GameOverlayRenderer.log The full file log is 2.3mb so it was rejected by bugzilla, I uploaded it here instead: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/114398/wine-hl2-file.log.bz2 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24080 --- Comment #4 from Michael Monreal <michael.monreal+wine(a)gmail.com> 2010-08-22 09:50:11 --- I tried various ways to get a meaningful log. I found this way to work best: cd "$STEAM_DIR/steamapps/$PROFILE/half-life 2" wine hl2.exe -novid +map d1_trainstation_01 &> hl2.log ...after starting steam from another terminal. I will attach non-debug, file, +seh and +tid logs using this method. For whatever strange reason, the level starts with +relay debug! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Anyway, the problem seems to have started with the Aug20 steam update which I happen to have installed right before trying to start either game :/ [1] http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24064 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Does the problem still happen with wine-1.3.1?
1.3.0 is the latest I tried, will try to get a 1.3.1 build going now. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
