I was also trying to play the game using an ISO image instead of the actual CD, which might be a factor, but the no CD patch makes this irrelevant. Now, the game plays perfectly (Ubuntu Karmic Beta) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14129 --- Comment #7 from Xavier Vachon <xvachon(a)gmail.com> 2010-04-29 17:58:30 --- Not an issue anymore in wine 1.1.43 because the latest patch for the game removes the CD requirement. As my former comment says, I think it should be marked as "WONTFIX". -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14129 --- Comment #8 from Jeff Zaroyko <jeffz(a)jeffz.name> 2010-04-29 18:01:55 --- If it's still possible to test for the original problem it should probably remain open. Looking at the comments here, the last time someone reported the original problem was 2008-06-26 when the bug was reported. Comment #5 says they used an iso image instead of a real cd which means nothing in the context of the original bug. Can anyone retest the original problem? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Can anyone retest the original problem?
Hi Jeff, i gave it a try... Different game versions come with improved detection of backup/pirated CD. In more than 24 versions, they improved it 5 times and since v1.21b the check was removed completely. Let's see how 1.1.44 handles that: war3-v1.00 SecuROM v4.68.00 <-- *** WORKS *** war3-v1.04b SecuROM v4.83.55 <-- *** WORKS *** (2002-11-07) war3-v1.05 SecuROM v4.84.60 <-- *** WORKS *** (2003-01-31) war3-v1.06 SecuROM v4.84.76 <-- *** WORKS *** (2003-05-29) war3-v1.11 SecuROM v4.84.81 <-- *** WORKS *** (2003-07-15) The originally reported day won't help you... 2008-02-06 war3-1.21b <--Comes without a check, no need to check anything later But to be sure, let's test last version with CD check: war3-v1.21a SecuROM v4.84.81 <-- *** WORKS *** (2007-01-23) Conclusion: It's user error, i.e. invalid or it was fixed and works in 1.1.44. Pfff... quite exhaustive report ;) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14129 Roman <m01brv(a)mail.ru> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |m01brv(a)mail.ru --- Comment #10 from Roman <m01brv(a)mail.ru> 2010-06-22 07:25:58 --- My WC3 version is 1.24e, so it should not check the CD. However, from time to time during the launch of WC3 I do get the error that CD/DVD drive not found. Sometimes it continues to launch normally if I press the Retry button, sometimes I should press it again a couple of times, sometimes I become tired of pressing this button and try to restart the WC3. The probability to get this CD error on launch is about 20-30%. Seemingly this CD error started to emerge in wine 1.2-rc1, but it was not present in wine 1.1.30 and 1.1.40. Though I will to check this again. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14129 --- Comment #11 from Roman <m01brv(a)mail.ru> 2010-07-06 07:23:49 --- Created an attachment (id=29398) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=29398) winedbg output for 'wine Frothen\ Throne.exe' It seems this CD message is reported after a page fault exception in some WC3 thread, maybe some other thread interpretes this as a failed cd check. I think the problem started from wine-1.2-rc1, and it appears randomly during WC3 launch. I attach the winedbg output with some page fault which I think may is the reason for the CD error. At least this error constitutes the only difference from the previous wine versions. The CD message emerges after I pass the exception to the program. The crash occures in the file dlls/user32/cursoricon.c which was just absent in previous wine versions. Unfortuanately, I cannot perform the full regression testing, because my git flatly refuses to work behind proxy or due to some other networking reason. Actually, I am not sure this bug is really related to the initial report. If necessary, I can create another thread for it. A similar error happened from time to time in previous wine versions too but that time the page fault occured in the intel video driver stack (i915_dri.so), so I think it was not related to wine. And it was not so annoying. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
