Wordview hand when open doc file with picture. I have tested a few cases. but the result is quite inconsistent. I have attached a sample that does not worked. I am using openoffice 2.4.1 to create the file and save into .doc format. By the way, the rationale for this test is to is improve the compatibility of openoffice using the word view as a validator. When I do, it puts up a window with a page outline with corner marks, and says "doc: 1 characters" on the status bar, but then sits, using 100% cpu. Is that what happens for you? I didn't quite have a chance and experience to go more details.
