They did some changes to their soundsystem or something like this, this affected many games. I gues this was introduced in wine too. Can be fixed by installing directmusic and dmsynth.
Glad that it works, but please note that closing the bug as FIXED is not correct. Wine has a builtin directmusic / dmsynth implementation, which most likely still suffers from this bug. Installing native DLLs via winetricks is always just a workaround. Now that you know which component is involved, it would help to attach terminal output (with and without WINEDEBUG=+dmusic) so that developers can further track down what exactly is missing in Wine. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Crashes on the main menu screen, when music is not disabled in GOTHIC.INI . Console log is attached. The game still crashes with music enabled. The log for that is attached above. `winetricks -q gmdls directmusic` works around.
Is this still correct for Gothic 1 with more recent wine-7.x versions?
