If you have a gamepad/joystick attached try to start the game with the controller unplugged. Does the game start normally that way? I could reproduce the problem with the GOG.com version when my cheap Trust GXT530 gamepad is attached. If I launch 'wine control joy.cpl' the controller appears as: MY-POWER CO.,LTD. USB joystick (js) MY-POWER CO.,LTD. USB joystick (event) In order to start the game with the controller attached I had to disable one of the input methods.
