Heroes of Might and Magic III. Complete crashed before first screen saying
directdraw error. My system is Ubuntu 7.04+ wine 0.9.41.

Full cross-check:
- reinstalling heroes III.- no change
- reinstalling wine 0.9.41- no change
- switching back wine to 0.9.35- game runs propely 
- installing wine 0.9.41 again- original error reproduced

Winecfg shows "missing libjack.so". This file is still missing after
reinstalling jack. Don't know how to get libjack.so ?
This problem was present with all wine versions. (0.9.23-0.9.41)

Works fine here. Please try:
1. (re)move $HOME/.wine directory
2. Upgrade Wine to latest 0.9.43 version
3. Reinstall the game.

If the crash still happens, please specify how is the game setup (full-screen,
window, full-screen in virtual desktop). And attach complete terminal output
(as a file do not paste it here).

Also is this a demo version or full retail version? If full, did you "patched"
it or running it as is? Have you made any other configuration changes?

After manually installing wine 0.9.43 (.41 is latest in my distro software
channel) the game runs propely.

For the archives: 
system was: Ubuntu 7.04 on Athlon XP 1700+, 768MB DDR, MSI KT3 Ultra2, GF4
MX440 64MB DDR.

app: Heroes of Might & Magic III. Complete, full version (Ubisoft)
I tried it unpatched and also with WoG 3.58f, full-screen, no window handling
by manager, hardware acceleration only, no pixel shader, otherwise all default.

Game runs propely with 0.9.35 and 0.9.43, crashed with 0.9.41. 
-> Problem solved in 0.9.42 or 0.9.43.
