The main reason for doing the porting manually was to weed out the cruft. There is a lot of it. You can check the porting status of specific pages you are interested in on http://oldwiki.winehq.org/PageMigration. If there are specific pages that have been flagged "do not port" that you believe should be ported, you can leave a comment on that page explaining why you think it should be ported. Porting is still ongoing, but note that many pages have been flagged not to be ported. The main reason for doing the porting manually was to weed out the cruft. There is a lot of it.
