[Bug 14991] New: static sound makes a return
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14991 Summary: static sound makes a return Product: Wine Version: 1.1.3 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-dsound AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: aidenn(a)gmail.com CC: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org, killertux(a)suomi24.fi, m.b.lankhorst(a)gmail.com, goce_jeb(a)yahoo.com +++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #9465 +++ all apps generate static sound with ALSA driver, it has been that way since 1.1.2, I think (i didn't check 1.1.1 of 1.1.0). switching to OSS fixes the problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Can you test with wine v1.1.0 ? If that one works ok, please follow the instructions at http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting to find the change which introduced the problem. Also which sound card are you using? Do 'lspci' and look for the audio device. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Yeah, i just moved all the way back to wine 1.0, still static (0.9.61 doesn't compile on my machine, so I can't check that), so it has to be something different (I clearly remember playing sound with wine 1.0 and ALSA driver).
Also which sound card are you using? Do 'lspci' and look for the audio device.
I have a SB Live - 02:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 05) Other specs - alsa-lib 1.0.17a, kernel 2.6.26.2, no pulseaudio or any other sound server. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

What was the last version that worked for you then?
1.0, but that was with older ALSA drivers and kernel. I checked now with wine 1.1.4, alsa-lib 1.0.17a and kernel 2.6.26.5, ALSA still generates static (works fine aside from wine), OSS works fine. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Last known working configuration for me was Hardy Heron and Wine 1.1.5. I imported each prefix I had in my Hardy Heron installment in my new Intrepix Ibex installment. Here is the output for Knights of the old republic 2 when I last tried the game. I do not see any lines which are relevant to the issue here, but I will post it nonetheless in case it turns out to be useful: http://pastebin.com/m7ad46b55 When I select the OSS driver in winecfg as suggested, I get no sound at all. I am willing to try out new suggestions and post reports about them. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

It turns out my problem was related to pulseaudio. Adding "killall pulseaudio" to my startup commands solved the issue for me. Could it be the same for the original poster? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

no, I do not use pulseaudio at all. alas, today the problem resolved itself - it was an alsa bug. after updating to alsa 1.0.18 the static went away, even after downgrading to wine-1.0. I'll stay with oss though, alsa output is still a bit too crackly for my tastes. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

scratch that, it's not an alsa bug. it's a ladspa bug. :D updating alsa turned off my ladspa plugins from .asoundrc (a change in default plugin path) and that's why the static disappeared. after fixing .asoundrc it came back (and also gave me back my lovely global eq). anyway, it's not a wine issue. ;) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
