Ubuntu Forums (link above) has a big discussion about how it fails. The beta version works (with minor issues on the front page fonts not showing properly unless the mode is set to Win98). Details: * Kindle app: 6540984 bytes, latest from Amazon (May/17/2010) * Wine configured as Win98 * Ubuntu 9.10 * Wine 1.1.44 * See attachment "Kindle installation log" for details The application is installed but the following message is displayed at the end of installation process: "Kindle for PC ins Installed, but failed to launch. Please contact your administrator". If you try to run it from menu the application is showed at task bar but it disappears after some seconds. I applied to trunk and was able to run stock Kindle for PC with no problems.
