with current wine 1.0 the game crashes and won't open, unable to test this bug due to crash.

Yes, it is still an issue with wine 1.2-rc4. Tested on Wine 1.7.31 - Blew the dust off this old CD-set and installed the game, confirming comment 4 that there's a bug launching the game. Filed this as bug 37601 Once the game launched (needs mfc42 and NoCD) I found it mostly playable. The skybox loads - however I am getting the same bug in reverse. If I press escape the game is ruined and cannot be resumed due to the entire screen going black. At least you can still click the button to escape the level and it will properly reload, so it's not a stopper as long as there is no need to pause.
