"Failed to connect to the mount manager", see picture attached. I've seen this bug, but with today's git it's working fine right now.

I found that the only difference between my .wine folder create by a 32 bits ubuntu os and a 64 ubuntu os are these 3 files: system.reg, userdef.reg and user.reg. Replacing the files from the 32 bits installation into my 64 bits installation, I found that the drives are now shown in "Drives" tab. The file that fixed the problem is system.reg and the lines that were missing in this file are: [System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\MountMgr] 1216050542 "Description"="Device mounting service" "DisplayName"="Mount Manager" "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001 "ImagePath"="C:\\windows\\system32\\drivers\\mountmgr.sys" "ObjectName"="LocalSystem" "Start"=dword:00000002 "Type"=dword:00000001 I noticed that there is a lot more missing section in the system.reg generated by the 64 bits Ubuntu installation. Looks like that something is broken in your Wine setup, the initial Wine registry is missing important information.
'rm -rf ~/.wine', run 'wine notepad' and check the regsitry again.
I have been having the same issue running Jaunty x64. Running the notepad from Applications -> Wine -> Programs fixed the problem without having to remove and re-construct the ~/.wine file structure. mountmgr now works in winecfg. Mihail, another request: do you have a Wine tree compiled? Does the problem persist if you run 'wine notepad.exe' from inside the Wine build tree? (There is no need to uninstall existing Wine binaries, but just in case you might try to do that as well as an additional troubleshooting step).

In both cases ~/.wine was created correctly. I guess, it's possible that binary package is broken. I use binary packages for 64-bit Ubuntu Intrepid from http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/ (see the binary downloads section on winehq.org). I am having this problem but do not see a fix listed. I am running 32bit Wine under 32bit Ubuntu 10.0.4. The program was running just fine the last time I used it a few days ago. Not sure what changed in between, but now, when I launch the Wine Configuration, after about a minutes delay, I get an error message with Close button. When I close and rerun the Wine Config, after about two minutes, the tabbed config page opens, but when I click on the "Drives" tab, it says: "Failed to connect to the mount manager, the drive configuration cannot be edited." I can open "Notepad.exe", which also takes about a minute to load/run. I tried uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling Wine from the Synaptic Package Manager, only to get the same result.
