Added native d3dx9_3* dlls in order to not fall over on unimplemented functions. And I really can't capture a good backtrace here. Gotcha. This turns out to be a duplicate of bug 8051 - specifically, the software mode shader constants issue. At least, applying that part of the hack allows the game to start. Lots of missing models, GL_INVALID_OPERATION and all that. But it runs. Now, why I get no debug backtrace - that's maybe worthy of investigation as a separate bug? Ah well.
