[Bug 31846] New: World of Warcraft: graphical glitches with particle weather effects using D3D9 engine
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31846 Bug #: 31846 Summary: World of Warcraft: graphical glitches with particle weather effects using D3D9 engine Product: Wine Version: 1.5.14 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: thomas(a)ch.tudelft.nl Classification: Unclassified Created attachment 41900 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41900 Screenshot of blowing snow clouds using D3D9 engine Due to a bug in Blizzard's OpenGL engine I switched to the D3D9 engine. All works well except for the weather in, among others, Tanaris. During a sandstorm (sand clouds blowing towards the player) yellow, red and green pixels temporarily form on the screen, like sand blowing against the screen. The same is observed in the Valley of Emperors in Kun-Lai Summit, where there's snow clouds blowing towards the player - see also the attachments. The comparison with the OpenGL screenshot suggests that the pixels should actually be snowflakes. This effect is affected by the particle density setting: decreasing the setting decreases the amount of pixels (and normally: the amount of snowflakes) and vice versa. This bug has been observed using wine versions 1.5.13 and 1.5.14. No others versions were tested (using OpenGL before). Wine is set to windows XP mode using default library settings. msvcr80.dll is present in the directory of WoW. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

It works fine for me on GeForce GTS 250 using NVIDIA's 304.51 drivers. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31846 --- Comment #3 from Schaap <thomas(a)ch.tudelft.nl> 2012-10-03 04:27:35 CDT --- Good point. $ lspci | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF106 [GeForce GTS 450] (rev a1) I run Ubuntu using the nvidia-current-updates package, which should contain 295.49 at the moment. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31846 --- Comment #4 from Schaap <thomas(a)ch.tudelft.nl> 2012-10-04 15:39:24 CDT --- I have upgrade my drivers to 304.51 using nvidia's installer. I'm checking regularly to try and find a sandstorm in Tanaris, but they're not very common. I'll let you know when I have results. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31846 Schaap <thomas(a)ch.tudelft.nl> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |FIXED --- Comment #8 from Schaap <thomas(a)ch.tudelft.nl> --- Well, there's an oldie. Checked today. With the engine set to D3D9 in World of Warcraft 5.4.8 this glitch no longer appears. I'm still using the same graphics card with the 331.38 NVidia drivers supplied with Kubuntu (14.04). Wine has been upgraded to 1.7.23 (64-bit, manually compiled). Looking at the changes (graphics drivers, wine version, WoW version) I consider this bug to be fixed with the addition that upgrading stuff may be needed to fix the issue if it occurs. I'll take the liberty to mark this fixed. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
