[Bug 16052] New: wwiionline (Battleground Europe): bad fps drops when playing certain sounds
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16052 Summary: wwiionline (Battleground Europe): bad fps drops when playing certain sounds Product: Wine Version: 1.1.8 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: directx-dsound AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: rasto(a)ns.ksp.sk The game suffers very bad fps drops (from ~60 to 0.5-0.2 for few seconds) when certain sounds are played with hardware sound selected. This occurs in all wine sound configurations. Soundcards tested: 1) Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) 2) E-mu 0202 USB To reproduce: Install wwiionline (download from ftp://downloads.wwiionline.com/). Run WW2_sse2.exe (or any other executable) to go to offline training. Select a two-engined bomber/transport aircraft, for instance the C47. Start engines with "e". Wait a few seconds until the aircraft starts to roll slowly. Now turn the engines off with "e" again. The problem is most pronounced when turning the engines off like this, but appears (often to lesser extent) often, making the game unplayable with sound. Seems to be present with sound both "hardware" and "software" but not with sound "disabled". Occurs in all wine versions tested, from 1.1.3 to 1.1.8. OS is Debian, wine built from sources. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

It happens with my soundcard as well (not sure what it is - integrated intel chip of some sort). When set to hardware mode sound, some sounds don't play in the game. That is, I fire my rifle, and I hear the bullet ricochet, but the actual sound of the shot doesn't play. Or you can hear the grass rustle, but not the tank in front of you. I've always wondered if it had something to do with the lack of hardware mixing on my sound chip. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I should mention that these problems are *in addition* to what Rasto reported. I think it's all tied to the same issue. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I thought this might not be the same problem, so I filed another bug together with the first one: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16054 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16052 --- Comment #4 from Brian Vuyk <brian(a)brianvuyk.com> 2008-11-14 10:41:01 --- I do think you are right in your app test report that the sound is mixed my the game regardless of whether hardware or software is selected in-game. I am pretty sure I even read something to this effect in the WWIIOL forums. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

What sound driver is selected in winecfg? Are you using pulseaudio or any other sound servers?
Happens with any of OSS only, alsa only, oss/alsa. No soundserver is running on top of alsa.

For me, ALSA is selected. Pulseaudio is running on this system, although there is no selection for it in the 'audio' tab. However, this bug has occured when I had just ALSA on the system, just OSS, and now Pulseaudio. I don't think this is specific to a given audio server / driver. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
