[Bug 18146] New: EvE Online;Salvage Beams and Warp (or so i think) are rendered incorrectly and cause a FPS drop
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18146 Summary: EvE Online;Salvage Beams and Warp (or so i think) are rendered incorrectly and cause a FPS drop Product: Wine Version: 1.1.19 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: gajo01(a)gmail.com As the summary says. salvage beams are rendered incorrectly: white garbled textures instead of red light, and warp looks pixelated (i'm assuming these two are caused by the same thing). I'm using wine 1.1.19 patched with http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20410, I have Nvidia 7600 GT (it wouldn't render any models before applying those fixes). I'm runing 64bit Archlinux, I'm using wine through 32 chrooted environment. In both the chrooted environment and in the 64bit environment I'm using the same version of the driver, the bug exhibits both on 185.19-2 (my current) and 180.44-1. I've also talked in the ingame linux channel, and it seemed that someone else is having the same problem (altough he has the same graphics card), reportedly it started happening from the newest patch (I wouldn't know as I wasn't playing the game). I've tried nearly all sorts of eve options : shadows off/on, HDR off/on, Bloom off/on, Dither off/on. The resulting images were taken with all of it off. tractor beam bug http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/1689/tractorbeam.jpg warp bug http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/8041/warp.jpg (not so visible, but you can see that it's pixeleted if you look closly) My config files: xorg.conf http://codepad.org/MARyATJ5 important part of user.reg http://codepad.org/4F3IjOQ1 entire user.reg http://codepad.org/5hMhGnKF glxinfo (glxinfo is the same in 64bit and 32bit chroot): http://codepad.org/fPOKCSny My error log: The error log also includes switches done when changing options, not just the errors that happened while playing. Since the log is _huge_ (some 42MBs), i've decided to get the unique lines with uniq and sort them in descending order, the first number displays occurances: http://codepad.org/OduPtW1c If you want a chronological order, let me know and I'll what I can do about it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

But this only happened with High shader quality, with Medium shader quality the FPS rate was ok. With the latest build on the test server 6.12.92970 the problem with the High Shader is fixed. But the salvage beam still causes a very low FPS rate. So maybe CCP noticed a bug in the shader that was fixed, and the same bug is also present in the salvage beam shader. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

On my ATI laptop; there is no noticeable drop in frame rate (though the beam is still white) On my Nvidia laptop; the frame rate drops to nothing (the frame won't change until salvaging is over, or the frame will change but only once ever 60 seconds or so). The only real difference between these two laptops is the video card, and the ATI laptop have 1G less ram. (as far as stats go) I think the white beam is the wine bug and the frame rate is the cards drivers not being able to handle the bug. But that is a guess. Ive mined quite a lot, and my miners havent caused any problems as far as Ive noticed. But thats Strip Miners now that I think of it. Havent seen any of the regular mining beams, nor mining drones. On another note, the warp effect havent posed any problems for me either. Its just the salvaging beam, which essentially brings the rendering to a halt. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Fry <dabljuh(a)dabserver.dyndns.org> 2009-11-02 20:53:14 --- confirming on 1.1.31 and nvidia card. I'd like to point out that I have extreme fps drops (down to the point where the system / gfx card simply stops responding to anything) with regular (turret) mining lasers and salvagers. Strip miners and tractor beams on the other hand cause no issue whatsoever. I have no problems with warp tunnels. So people who have (no) problems with "mining lasers" please make clear whether you are using strip miners (who don't give me problems either) or regular (turret) mining lasers. I cannot say if turret mining lasers and the salvager beams are rendered correctly, I haven't noticed anything, but that may be because as soon as either of those effects make up more than a few pixels on the screen, the game essentially locks up. As a workaround, "effects" can be turned off but this is a severe to near-total loss of visual cues on what's going on on the screen. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Both salvaging and mining laser beams cause a dramatic slow down in FPS when the beams are visible on the screen. Beams from laser cannons or Hulks cause no problems at all. No issues with warp drive tunnel effects. Work-around - turn your point of view around in such a way as no beams happen to appear in your view (basically look at your ship from the front instead of from behind if you're heading towards miners / salvagers). (Does not happen on the 9600GT machine) Changing the graphical settings in eve down to 24 bit colours with no stenciland to 16 bit did improve performance quite significantly. Setting the z-buffer to 16 further increased performance. Someone please try to confirm this with their setups -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Negative on that. I just tested this in reaction to your post and: The bug still occurs just as always. It's a combination of a specific set of near-ancient geforce cards, the nvidia drivers, and wine. Most likely this will end in a "wontfix" and people who experience the bug either have to upgrade their graphics card or live with "effects" turned off. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The salvager works fine here though same with the warp effects.
