I understand that DLL overrides don't work, however in comment twelve they asked
me to follow the directions for installing IE6, the first step of which is:

1) download and import ie6_overrides.reg in your registry*:
wine regedit ie6_overrides.reg

Why set-up overrides and then not use them?  

I thought they were asking me to try overriding the dlls as specified in the ie6
installation instructions.  I have already tried several times without
overriding dlls... so I guess I don't understand what I was being asked to do. 
Ok, I suppose this isn't the best place for this discussion.  Sorry.

So here is the summary: 
- googletalk cannot connect to the google servers on a clean wine install
- googletalk still can't connect if ie6 is installed, using either the ies4linux
or the manual installation method
- googletalk CAN correctly open a browser though, this is incorrect in the appdb
listing.  inbox and help actions work fine.
- googletalk doesn't close properly

This is with wine 0.9.2 on gentoo linux.
