I'm already doing that. Did you delete ~/.wine first?  Your
result is expected if you didn't.

My procedure is
  rm -rf ~/.wine
  winetricks fakeie6 mdac28

where winetricks is http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks, which starts mdac_typ.exe
like this:
    WINEDLLOVERRIDES="odbccp32,odbc32=n" wine MDAC_TYP.EXE
