FWIW - I noticed this worked partially (briefly) for me in that I saw a
gradient that seemed transparent, although once I moved the window it
disappeared so I'm not sure.  The only thing I changed recently was turning on
Compiz again (it has been off for a while).  I will provide an update again
soon after I play with it to narrow down what appears to be happening.
