[Bug 10218] New: Winecfg does not find sound device(s)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10218 Summary: Winecfg does not find sound device(s) Product: Wine Version: 0.9.47. Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-programs AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: der.kosak(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=8839) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8839) Messages from winecfg I'm using wine with a Ubuntu Gutsy amd64 system, where I compiled alsa from source (-libs, -utils, -driver, -firmware and -oss). All works well, playback and recording. I made a new .wine folder (moving the old one to other place) and tried to configure sound. In winecfg's Audio tab are listed only 2 devices under ALSA, and none under OSS. I think this ocurred because after I compiled alsa-oss, because I tested the configuration a little while before, and even the Test Sound worked. Now winecfg doesn't recognize any sound devices. I tried running a game with the "Driver Emulation" checked, and the sound played briefly, before crashing (STALKER, in a local installation). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10218 --- Comment #1 from der.kosak(a)gmail.com 2007-10-28 19:33:54 --- Created an attachment (id=8840) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8840) Output from STALKER with "Driver Emulation" on I am reporting this bug because of the odd finding in the Audio tab. But I also installed the new ATI driver today (8.42.3), so the crashing of the game might be because of that. Don't have other way of testing it, though. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Invalid. OSS supports only one device at a time (for most HW & drivers).
To check if any program is using sound run 'lsof /dev/snd/pcm* /dev/dsp'.
I forgot to include this before, I even had it saved: $ lsof /dev/snd/pcm* /dev/dsp lsof: status error on /dev/dsp: No such file or directory And this bug isn't about the game crashing, but winecfg not finding the sound devices (as shows by the command you asked before, and the attachment I sent). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

You HAVE TO HAVE /dev/dsp for OSS. That device _IS_ OSS. If you do not have it, then you have misconfigured system that DOES NOT have OSS. Nor alsa-oss emulation layer! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
