[Bug 29136] New: Sins of a Solar Empire (Stardock.com/Steam) does not activate
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29136 Bug #: 29136 Summary: Sins of a Solar Empire (Stardock.com/Steam) does not activate Product: WineHQ Apps Database Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: appdb-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: vitor.dominor(a)gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Created attachment 37558 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=37558 Relevant debug ouput with +winhttp when Register button is clicked. When I start Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity from Steam or from an installation downloaded from store.stardock.com, it presents the Stardock Account Registration dialog. After filling in the required details: stardock email, password and serial number, I click on Register and it does nothing, apparently. I've run it also with WINEDEBUG="+winhttp" and attached the relevant output regarding the moment I click Register. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29136 --- Comment #8 from rmlipman(a)gmail.com 2012-01-01 23:18:08 CST --- Here's a workaround I found: Get the SDActivate.exe and SDActivate.lng from an unpatched install from a retail dvd (fresh wineprefix is easiest way). Sins of a Solar Empire: Replace SDActivate.exe and SDActivate.lng with the old versions Galactic Civilizations II: Replace SDActivate.exe and SDActivate.lng with the old versions Also replace the same files in the Twilight/ folder Demigod: Replace ReactorActivate.exe and ReactorActivate.lng with the old versions Make sure to rename the files from SDActivate to ReactorActivate This should work for other Stardock games, but I have no way to test. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Here's a workaround I found:
Get the SDActivate.exe and SDActivate.lng from an unpatched install from a retail dvd (fresh wineprefix is easiest way).
Sins of a Solar Empire: Replace SDActivate.exe and SDActivate.lng with the old versions
Galactic Civilizations II: Replace SDActivate.exe and SDActivate.lng with the old versions Also replace the same files in the Twilight/ folder
Demigod: Replace ReactorActivate.exe and ReactorActivate.lng with the old versions Make sure to rename the files from SDActivate to ReactorActivate
This should work for other Stardock games, but I have no way to test.
Do you have any idea where to get the activator if I have the steam version? I am not sure which has the old stardock activator (which works with wine). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I'm able to provide a copy for anyone who needs it, I'd post the two files here but I have the feeling someone might not be too happy even though they're only used to activate a product you have purchased... but anyways, I'll provide a link in the rebellion appdb page once I can upload them somewhere (thinking dropbox...) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Although I should hope they do since it's affecting their registration software and not the game itself. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The updated files are SDActivate.exe and SDActivate.lng. With these updated files activation works (tested with Wine 1.4.1 and 1.5.19). I don't know what's the status of Sins of a Solar Empire on Steam as I don't have that game. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
