I just tested both the demo and the retail version on 1.2-rc2 without gecko installed but both crashes the same way. Note that I currently don't have access to the machine in the original post. I did exactly what you suggested with native dplayx.dll's from both Windows 98SE and XP in a clean 1.2-rc2 prefix but it still crashes. "winetricks directplay" doesn't help either. Our systems must be different somewhere else?
